Boot again and the screen will stay black, switch to another console and get spammed with [drm] *ERROR* Fault errors on pipe A: 0x00000080. How often does the steps listed above trigger the issue? For example: always, 1 out 3 times. Always when waking up from hibernation after the bad commit.

No observable change - same garbled screen post wakeup & high rate of '[drm:gen8_de_irq_handler] Fault errors on pipe A: 0x0000008' emitted by the kernel. dmesg output post drm-v4.12 branch make & make install shown below (with some kldxref warnings during the make install (possible because of a r330695 kernel on a r 330232 userland due to just a make kernel and not a full make world).

From boot, dmesg shows no errors until about 20 seconds in where I get the [drm] error, and the screen flickering starts. I will try to let it sit idle and see if I still get the flickering. Last edited by jamochl (2021-02-17 23:22:40)

I'm running a fresh install of Kubuntu 20.04. Many times when I shutdown (not every time, but often), it pauses for a minute or so before showing the error: [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun This is usually associated with screen flickers. The screen also sometimes flickers during normal usage.

Suspend/resume : Fault errors on pipe A #68 - GitHub

github.com/FreeBSDDesktop/DEPRECATED-freebsd-base-graphics/issues/68
My suspect is wrong. DRM_ERROR macro just prints the address of function in the FreeBSDDesktop kernel. Anyway I see the resume sequence breaks before the driver calls any resume functions and cannot reach the function of skl_init_cdclk which is the reason of the symptom in Linux. This problem is not related with the drm-patch at all.
